Designer Josandra Armillas grew up in the West village of Manhattan and attended the Little Red School House grammar school, where the curriculum was art driven. At Little Red, art murals were created as history lessons and skits and songs were written and performed to demonstrate science experiments and math problems. Josandra also studied ballet with the Joffery from age 4 to 16. Josandra was exposed to the fashion industry at an early age through her mother who was a lingerie designer for Christian Dior. These influences from an early age still play a large role in what inspires Josandra in her fashion design today. After graduating from Parsons Josandra worked with highly respected design talents such as Catherine Malandrino and J Mendel before launching her own collection in Spring 08. These experiences along with Josandra’s upbringing nurtured her creativity and style. Josandra’s collection offers provocative and edgy pieces that are both playful and sophisticated, while still catering to the creation of affordable and wearable fashion. Her unique and stylish aesthetic conjures up feminine, delicate, and fluid styles combined with pieces that offer a more tailored, masculine edge. The collection epitomizes an extraordinary and unique attention to detail, from the original prints and colors, to the exquisite use of pleating, stitching and draping.
